New sets of Euler-type polynomials

In recent papers, new sets of Sheffer and Brenke polynomials based on higher order Bell numbers have been studied, and several integer sequences related to them have been introduced. In the article other types of Sheffer polynomials are considered, by introducing two sets of Euler-type polynomials.

Genetic algorithms in bus network optimisation

This paper focuses on a new method to compute fitness function (ff) values in genetic algorithms for bus network optimization. In the proposed methodology, a genetic algorithm is used to generate iteratively new populations (sets of bus networks). Each member of the population is evaluated by…

May personality influence the selection of life-long mate? A multivariate predictive model

The idea that individuals tend to choose a romantic partner following similarities on personality traits has always attracted much attention in the psychological literature, although results were controversial. We conducted a new data analysis approach to personality traits of 235 newlywed couples…

An Algebraic-elliptic Algorithm for Boundary Orthogonal Grid Generation

To produce grids conforming to the boundary of a physical domain with boundary orthogonality features, algebraic methods like transfinite interpolating schemes can be profitably used. Moreover, the coupling of Hermite-type (also interpolating prescribed boundary direction) schemes with elliptic…

A patchy dynamic programming scheme for a class of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations

Unravelling the role of phoretic and hydrodynamic interactions in active colloidal suspensions

Active fluids comprise a variety of systems composed of elements immersed in a fluid environment which can convert some form of energy into directed motion; as such they are intrinsically out-of-equilibrium in the absence of any external force. A fundamental problem in the physics of active matter…

An orthogonal similarity reduction of a matrix into semiseparable form

An algorithm to reduce a symmetric matrix to a similar semiseparable one of semiseparability rank 1, using orthogonal similarity transformations, is proposed in this paper. It is shown that, while running to completion, the proposed algorithm gives information on the spectrum of the similar initial…

Pedestrian flows in bounded domains with obstacles

In this paper, we systematically apply the mathematical structures by time-evolving measures developed in a previous work to the macroscopic modeling of pedestrian flows. We propose a discrete-time Eulerian model, in which the space occupancy by pedestrians is described via a sequence of Radon-…
